OUR APPROACH
The 3rd Street Yoga Center was started in response to enquiries by a few yoga teachers in 2016. The COVID epidemic, however, brought the yoga practice to a complete halt. A year ago, Jasbinder Singh (Jas), owner of the premises @ 800 3rd Street and former Councilmember in the Town of Herndon, decided to start his own personal yoga practice and open the Center to serve Herndon and the surrounding communities.
Almost 60 years ago, yoga had caught his fancy after coming across a book written by a Western yoga teacher. For a period of about 4 years, he had immensely enjoyed various breathing techniques (to calm the mind, reduce stress and increase concentration) and to reduce the tiredness after participating in competitive sports such as Table Tennis and Cricket.
Last year, Jas decided to put his past experience to a test and become a yoga teacher. But, first, he had to come up to speed – yoga had changed a great deal during the intervening years. In April 2024, he received his 200 hrs. certification from YogaRenew. Based on his prior experience and evaluations of numerous on-line as well as in-person classes (by other teachers), Jas developed the following principles.
Whether you are looking to feel stronger, increase your endurance, improve your range of motion, achieve a sense of peace and quiet, the building blocks of our YOGA practice include:
YOUR SAFETY & ENJOYMENT
- Prioritize Proper Warm-Ups – Start with a warm-up to prepare your muscles
- Help You to Listen to Your Body – Adjust your routine as needed to avoid injury
- Focus on Full-Body Workouts – Engage in total body routines for balanced strength
- Mix Intensity Levels – Balance intense workouts with gentler sessions for recovery
- Build Strength Gradually – Increase strength & grace through progressive exercises
- Enhance Stamina – Add intensity to your workouts to boost endurance over time

OUR SPACES FOR YOGA
Our Studio is located in a 8000 square ft Victorian home where other wellness businesses and professional offices are also located. It has beautiful oak, maple and red pine floors, oak stair case, tall pocket doors, spacious windows, high ceilings, offices with fireplaces, and ample open spaces around the building that add to the charm of the place. Three rather unique spaces have been set aside for yoga classes, events and meditation.
Space No. 1 – SUITE 130
Located on the 1st floor, Suite 130 is suitable for relatively small classes of up to 10 students and will be reserved for Seniors. It can also be used for one-one training sessions.
Space No. 2 – SUITE 300
Located on the 3rd floor, this “private” space has angled ceilings that make listening to music a beautiful experience. This space creates the “right” ambience for doing meditation practices. The 10′ tall central flat ceiling creates a uniquely spacious room for yoga practices. This space can easily accommodate 15-20 students. This space will generally be reserved for Meditation classes between the hours of 9am and 5pm and in the evening (whenever necessary and appropriate) and for YOGA classes before 9am and after 5 pm. It has its own A/C system. A private bath and four large storage areas make Suite 300 a perfect place for holding yoga classes.

Space No. 3 – The OUTDOOR DECK
The 17’x40′ deck located on the eastern side of the building was built for holding yoga classes, yoga retreats and community events. It is a beautiful place for doing Sun Salutations in the morning! Protected by tall trees on one side and the building on the other it can even be used for private parties. This space’s ground level access makes it a highly desirable place for holding yoga classes for the elderly and young children. The deck can accommodate 18-20 students.
